Terms of Service
Effective date: 3 July 2026
These terms govern your use of Rideout — the ride planning service for motorcyclists available at rideout.co.za and through our mobile apps (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who may use Rideout
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for your account and for keeping your login details secure. You must give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
2. What Rideout is (and is not)
Rideout is a planning and coordination tool. It lets riders create routes, organise rides, and share them with other riders. Rideout is not a ride organiser, tour operator, riding school, safety service, or emergency service. Rides listed on the Service are created and run by users, not by us. We do not vet routes, rides, organisers or participants.
3. Riding is at your own risk
Motorcycling is inherently dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. By using the Service you acknowledge and agree that:
- you ride entirely at your own risk, and you are solely responsible for your own safety and conduct on the road;
- you are responsible for ensuring you are licensed, insured, and legally permitted to ride, and that your bike is roadworthy;
- you must comply with all traffic laws at all times;
- you must not operate or look at your phone or the app while riding — set up navigation before you set off and stop safely before interacting with your device;
- you assess the suitability of any route or ride for your own skill level, bike and conditions; and
- if you join a ride organised by another user, you do so at your own risk and any arrangement is between you and that user.
4. Routes, maps and navigation
Routes, maps, directions, distances, durations and meeting points shown in the Service are provided for planning purposes only. They are generated from third-party map and routing data and may be inaccurate, outdated or incomplete. Roads may be closed, unsafe, illegal to ride, or different from what is shown. Always rely on your own judgement, road signage and the actual conditions in front of you — never on the app.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create on the Service (routes, rides, descriptions, photos, profile information). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and distribute that content as needed to operate and improve the Service, in line with your visibility settings. Content you mark public can be seen by other users; you are responsible for what you choose to share.
You agree not to post content that is unlawful, infringes anyone's rights, or encourages dangerous or illegal riding.
6. Acceptable use
- Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose, including organising illegal racing or street competition.
- Do not harass, impersonate or harm other users.
- Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, scrape it, or interfere with its operation.
- Do not use another person's account without permission.
7. Third-party services and links
The Service uses third-party providers (such as map, routing and sign-in services) and may contain links to external services such as WhatsApp groups created by ride organisers. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
8. Availability and changes
Rideout is provided free of charge and is under active development. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we do not guarantee that the Service will be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that your content will be preserved. Keep your own copies of anything important.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of route or map data.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law (including, where applicable, the Consumer Protection Act, 2008), Rideout and its operators will not be liable for any injury, death, loss or damage of any kind — including accidents, property damage, or direct, indirect, incidental or consequential loss — arising from your use of the Service, from any route or navigation information, from any ride organised or joined through the Service, or from the conduct of other users. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims by third parties arising from your use of the Service in breach of these terms, from content you post, or from rides you organise.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or use the Service in a way that creates risk for us or other users. Sections 3, 4 and 9–11 survive termination.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
